Using hollow-core timber MultiPoles is a revolutionary technique for ground stabilization and improvement. Different types of timber poles, such as SED,
Uglies, UniLogs are used in timber pole solutions. Read on to learn more:
Timber Pole Foundations: A revolutionary concept
We partner with an innovative company to bring you revolutionary solutions for ground improvement and deep pile foundations using timber poles that are treated and prepared to stringent specifications.
High quality timber poles are procured from New Zealand, which harvests millions of tons of timber every year.
While timber pile foundations are an innovative concept in modern construction, it is by no means unknown. Timber was used in ancient times by the Aztecs and the Romans, apart from other cultures.
Today, this concept is proving a boon to engineers and contractors struggling with difficult ground conditions and marshy, silty or salty soil.
Advantages of using timber poles for ground improvement and stabilization
Timber poles provide unmatched strength and durability. They are easily processed, dried and treated, and are amenable to staining and coating.
When treated with preservatives to protect against fungal infections and insect infestations, these poles have a long life. (Hazard Class H5/H6 as per NZS3640:2003 Chemical Preservation of Round and Sawn Timber)
Besides, they deliver a lower installed cost and faster completion timeframe across all soil types.
A hollow center: Ground-breaking technology
We use timber MultiPoles with a unique hollow center, made by removing the corewood from the pole. The hollow core allows treatment preservative to penetrate from both the outside and inside surface, which in turn increases durability. The hole also allows safe shrinkage of the timber over time as it dries.
The hollow center also allows us to join together multiple pole lengths using simple pin connectors
to create poles of specified depths.
Our poles are tested for various characteristics, including high density, bending stress for construction or utility or power poles.
Applications for Ground Control products
Marine, Construction: Housing & Commercial, Roads, Embankment Protection, Ground Improvement for Silty, Sandy or Marshy conditions.
Benefits of using timber MultiPoles:
- Timber poles have a unique hollow core enables a 100 year expected service life vs 50 years for conventional poles.
- Easy to transport, with no special storage requirements.
- Beyond being carbon neutral, timber poles also sequester carbon into the ground.
